Egypt’s political future

Mohamed Morsi’s election is a big step in the development of Egyptian style democracy.  The actual form, substance and policies of government in the world’s 15^th most populous country have yet to fully emerge.  This election may be a step forward.  What is done by the government, the military included, will determine whether Egypt avoids taking two steps back.  And more important than a first election is whether future contests are legitimate, open and competitive; and whether those in office who lose respect the process and step aside.
